All privacy and confidentiality policies will be reviewed during our initial session together. Please know the law protects the relationship between a client and a counselor meaning that any information shared in session cannot be disclosed with written permission of the client. HOWEVER, the counselor is bound BY LAW to break confidentiality in the following circumstances: 

• Suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult or elder adult-the counselor is mandated by law to report this to appropriate authorities immediately.
• A client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person or persons-the counselor is mandated to report this threat to the police and the intended victim.
• A client is indicating or threatening harm to themselves-If a client expresses intent to harm themselves, the counselor will make every effort to engage them in a safety plan which will include notifying appropriate support persons, family, friends and proper authorities if needed.
